    MEME
    * Post 12 pictures you currently have on your hard drive that you think are self-expressive.
    * No captions! It must be like we're speaking with images and we have to interpret your visual language just like we have to interpret your words.
    * They must already be on your hard drive - no googling or flickr!
    * You don't have to answer any questions about any of your pictures if you don't want to. You can make them as mysterious as you like. Or you can explain as much as you like.

Ryan: [conducts mtv.com interview in which he says that a) he and Brendon could not work together any longer so Spencer and Ryan went out for a nice dinner to portion out their band, during which Spencer apparently agreed to give Brendon a good home where he could run and play and make music like Peter Gabriel, and b) he is sad and confused over the inexplicable fact that Pete is only talking to and about Spencer and Brendon when all Ryan has done is just not had time to take or return Pete's calls at all, OK?]

Jon (via Twitter): [posts picture of his dinner]

Spencer (via Twitter): Your ego is not your amigo.

Racist Attacks on the Obama Children: New Lows for the Racist Right? (UPDATED) - Just when you think the racist right has reached its low point, some hyper-racist folks there show they can go yet lower. For some time now, they have sunk to attacking the Obama children for their clothes, looks, and actions. This seems to be yet another, often racist, way of attacking President Obama. Have they no shame, as Senator Joe McCarthy was once asked.malia_obama

Lately, Malia Obama has gotten much attention for the peace symbol she wore in Italy while her father was at the G8 summit. Also for the way she looked, her natural hair style, and the Black rapper walking nearby. This photo was put up at the New York Post, the conservative free-republic website, and numerous other sites. It has generated much racist commentary below news stories, which reveal the extent of racist thinking still commonplace in white America.

Some of the comments people were making were just disgusting, especially when you realize they were said about an eleven-year-old girl. Things like:

“Looks like a typical street whore.”
“the world must be laughing like mad right now at that we have this kind of street trash in our white house.”
“Wonder when she will have her first abortion.”
“sad isn’t it that we now have ghetto street trash over there representing us in Europe.”

    Eleven. Years. Old.

It gets even better when you know that the Free Republic, who on their front page state "Free Republic does not advocate or condone racism, violence, rebellion, secession, or an overthrow of the government," froze the thread, reviewed it, and then opened it back up again without reprimanding anyone. They only took it down for good when it started making the rounds on the left blogosphere.

    here i go again...
So I'm the lame friend that forgets people's birthdays all the time, and I forgot [info]nemoinis's this year, which is FLIPPING RIDICULOUS, because I have known her longer than anyone on the internet. Seriously, ANYONE.

Our first interaction? Hilariously enough? Was about O-Town. Does anyone remember them? They had that SONG. Alllllll or nothing at allllllll. And I listened to it nonstop, and apparently she had the cd, or something. And our second interaction was margarita related, which really should surprise a grand total of no one.

Ahhh, memories. She's betaed every single story I've ever written, she's plotted out about six million things with me via phone, email, and aim chats. She gave me the plot to meat sauce (aka amnesia!Dean, aka What Remains) and then listened to me completely natter on about it incessantly. She's what fandom means to me, seriously. I wouldn't know how to exist in it without her.

Also, she's always good for a really, really awful and horrible kink rec. Like, thumb sucking weird. I don't know where she finds them, but they are amusing.

Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, honey. I'm sorry I am lame and totally forgot. :(

Also, on the "Bitch, plz" front...
Pa. swim club accused of racism to ask kids back

    A) Too little, too late.
    B) Why the hell do you think those kids would want to go back there?!
    C) Why the hell do you think those kids' parents would LET their kids go back to where they were insulted because of their ethnicity just to be your token minorities/get-out-of-senate-investigation card?!
    D) So, "not having the facilities to handle that many kids" has fallen by the wayside in the face of the flurry of bad PR, eh? You're not helping your case.
    E) Nearly unanimous?! Uhh-hunh.

    So, in short...bitch, plz.

Mrs. Chambers in HS, who insisted I was going to Bryn Mawr. Even when Carnegie Mellon was my first choice and I got into Carnegie Mellon, she was still insisting that no, I was going to Bryn Mawr. Her insistence brought Bryn Mawr and Carnegie Mellon equal, which led to the infamous "Jou Picks Her College By Flipping a Coin" scenario.

Fic: Your New Life With Us
This is a sequel to the men, the myths, the monotones and, like that one, a Panic/X-Files crossover. Ryan/Mulder, Ryan/Brendon/Spencer, Ryan/Jon, R, 3325 words. Title from Phantom Planet. Cultverse, including dubious consent and implied violence. Deals with the Panic split.

Many heartfelt thanks to [info]callsigns for awesome beta, as well as for the original crossover prompt!

But Spencer was right, it turned out, because a month later the bell rang again and there was Mulder standing on the step.

Missed train because got departure time wrong by expedient of not looking at my ticket once today. Is past normal business travel time. Next train not for two hours. Did not sleep at all last night. Want bed. Arriving in New York 2am. Googled directions to new apartment because lack faith in cabbies' ability to navigate Queens.

Finally sleepy. Losing pronouns. Soon capitalization will go. May sleep on train with alarm set on phone to avoid waking up in DC.

Found copy of Patricia J. Williams' The Alchemy of Race & Rights for $1 and Susan Stryker's Transgender History for $7.

Feel railway stations would be vastly improved by addition of rentacots. Am disappointed in failure of American entrepreneurship.

    Con reports eventually.

Ridiculous Life Lessons From New Girl Games
Ridiculous Life Lessons From New Girl Games

    --

Uuuuugh. I refuse to believe "Diss and Make Up" is really. And "Babyz Fashion"? Really? No, really? And also, man, only five guys to choose from in "My Boyfriend"? Y'all are getting gipped. Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side has way more than that, plus ups the creepiness with if you work really hard and shoot for the stars, you can get your school principal in one game and your little brother in another. (Japan always brings in the creepy, after all.)

That said, though, yeah, that whole list is a sad, pathetic display.

    New story: Serious Moonlight (Kris/Adam | AI8 | Adult)
[info - personal] astolat has been accused of having freaky mind powers over me, and I cannot actually deny that. Because a few days ago she said to me, "kris/adam public bar porn, please!" and, well, here I am. (Also, I'm pretty sure the "please" was only implied.) I would thank her for the beta and cheerleading, but since it was all self-serving, I'll just post, instead. =)

For those of you who don't know yet that I'm having an [info - personal] astolat-induced, American Idol-based RPS summer fling, this is your final warning. There's the sign post up ahead...

    Freakin' Cool
This is the greatest news I have heard today. Basically, it says that you can keep your hand in ice longer if you swear, and that also, swearing is not like other talking. As I usually cheerfully chant obscenities and other nonsense at drivers that make my lizard brain want to jam my big motorized club into their slow-moving asses, I think this is awesome and has validated me.

I wonder, of course, if there is a neurological difference in swearing like, "So I said to Mabel, I said, 'Fuck this douchebag, he's out for your money'" and the "SHIT HELL DAMN BARBARA STREISAND" style when you're so frustrated or hurt that you have to explode somehow or you will run your car into that idiot who leaves a two-car gap and then wonders when the Type-A fuckweasels who work in Tysons Corner TAKE THE GAP AND FUCK THE FLOW.

...I may have issues with the driving habits of my co-habiting Tysons workers. May have.

you know this can't be right, hey, baby c'mon
SO! I went on a roadtrip to see The Cab last night! I am so, so glad I went, because it was held in exactly the kind of venue I used to trek out to in Red Hook or Williamsburg (long before Billyburg got trendy) to see little bands no one had ever heard of. It was a room above a bar on a little street, with drug dealers outside the door and a laundromat right beside it. They had wiring hanging from the ceiling and bouncers who looked like they were probably, in real life, the dude who unplugs the toilet most days. I was happy just walking in the door. I adore little divey venues like that.

But, let me backtrack! First was the roadtrip. [info]supergrover24, [info]lovelypoet and I piled into my little car and headed out on the road, armed with music and good will. It was actually a great drive, and my car made it there and back, nearly five hours of driving at 70-75 mph, on 3/4 of a tank of gas, god bless Saturns. LOVE love love road trips with fangirls! We listened to a whole lot of Fall Out Boy, since it seemed to be one of those common denominators of musical taste.

Parking was blessedly easy, and we got there just in time for the first opener to finish, and met up with [info]canadiankracka and her friend Devon. The second opener was Eye Alaska and detailed concert notes, sorta, below the cut: wherein Pet geeks out about music and dances to 'N Sync at a hipster show. )

We drove home after a brief chat with the Alex who sings, and after dropping my intrepid companions off, I managed to make it into the house by a little before 2 am. Then the dog went crazy with joy and I was assaulted by two cats who kept waking me up all through the night. Sigh. I am SO GLAD I took today off work; I'd be the most useless creature in the world if I tried to drag my ass in right now.

Great show. Great trip with fun fangirls. What can be better than that? And now I think I am going to go home, and catch a nap, and maybe even do a little grocery shopping. It's a plan.
